Key Design Features: Elongation of original apartment Human and animal/rat spaces Large kitchen countertop for cooking Built-in shelving for rat passage This project entails the transformation of the fictional apartment, of Linguini the chef, and Remy the rat from the animated Disney film Ratatouille. Through film research and documentation, formal and structural elements were identified in order to figure out what worked and what didn’t in the apartment. From this analysis, a new space was created, accommodating the shared space for both rat and human spaces. This included elongating the cramped apartment creating a large kitchen countertop space for Linguini, and long linear shelves allowing Remy to have complete movement throughout the apartment without fear of impeding Linguini. As a whole, the transformation allowed for the more logical allotment of space, shared species areas, and better circulation and light.
